Are You Hiding from Blobs?
Don't hide - define
A coach hired me to work with her.
Her problem?
She was terrified to post on social media.
She had been steadily building her business through referrals.
Coaching programs told her that posting on social media was her next step to expand her pool of clients.
But…
Every time she thought about posting on social, she wanted to hide.
She had beaten herself up for months.
No amount of self-flagellation helped her publish her first post.
She just couldn’t figure out how to “get over it” and post.
We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
— Albert Einstein
I thought of her as a very outgoing yet driven person.
She had a strong vision of what impact she wanted to make in the world.
But drive and vision weren’t enough to help her solve her problem.
In our work, I started drilling down to hunt for her block.
I turned over every stone I found.
And guess what?
We found the block and saw it for what it was.
When she thought about posting on social media…
She had visions of what “could” happen - all with bad outcomes.
She had been wired to see social media as a scary place where bad things could happen:
Snarky comments
Trolls
Or worse
Her nervous system knew she didn't have anything in place to respond to those bad things if they ever happened.
Working together we figured out a plan:
Bridge the gap and feel safe posting on social.
When you're solving a problem, specificity is key.
Here’s another example from my client work.
It's hard to do something about "my work sucks.”
You can't put your arms around it.
It's too blobby and undefined.
But if you get specific, you come closer to solving the problem.
So get specific - ask WHY your work sucks:
Is it because you feel dread when your boss walks in?
Is it because you're tired all the time at work?
Is it because you feel like you're underpaid?
Is it because you sit too long?
Get specific on what needs to change in your career.
Start doing something about it today.
One step moves you forward.
If you want help in defining your career problems to take that one step, you can book a call with me to explore how I might support you.
Let’s do this.

Interesting. I have a similar problem, only my issue is I can't fulfill a homework assignment that @Tim Denning assigned.
"Here is the challenge for this week: I want you to publish a tweet thread and upload a 60-second video (not a link to a video) for each tweet.
The first tweet is just text. Each tweet in the thread after the first one is text with a 60-second video of you either repeating the text of that tweet or explaining the text."
Uh, you mean a video of me? I CAN'T do that. I am ugly. I will break the webcam. It was all I could do to post my LinkedIn photo.
